I couldn't imagine a rainier day than the day of my first ironman race back in 2003 ... that is until today. The day started as expected at 3:45 when my cell phone and watch alarms went off simultaneously. A few minutes later I was out of the tent and into the car driving down State Rte 86 into Lake Placid. At this early hour the only people in the town were those in the service industry (THANK YOU STARBUCKS) and crazy early shift volunteers like me.
After parking the car I made my way to the Mobile gas station across the street from transition. Body marking team captain Manon was already onsite and some EAGER-BEAVER athletes were already getting marked.

2008 Graham Beasley Half Iron
My goals were simple: to finish and not to walk or stop during the run. Both were accomplished. The swim was challenging: very strong current in the river. Great bike: happy to stay over 30 KPH. Run: all good. No stopping, walking etc. Ran through all the aid stations.
